Haute Cakes Caffe doesn't need an introduction to Newport locals. It's the hangout in town for breakfast and lunch. Even Vogue magazine met up with Orange County fashionistas for a lunch last spring at Haute Cakes.
Owner Paul Taddeo greets customers with a sweet smile, gladly accommodates their personal requests, and offers fresh biscuits for their dogs.
Haute Cakes offers a classic breakfast: pancakes, eggs prepared anyway you like, and haute oats with steamed milk, brown sugar and butter (dishes that put them on the map 17 years ago). Paul even serves up mini versions for kids named after his darling daughters, Olivia and Sofie.
And breakfast goes gourmet, too. Try the orange-ricotta haute cakes adorned with mixed fresh berries, powdered sugar and fresh mint; or consider Pierre's scramble with asparagus, caramelized onions, roma tomatoes and French feta; and really good eggs, just grilled sourdough topped with swiss chard, tomato, poached eggs, pesto and parmesan.
At lunch you can order Everyone's Favorite Salad, with Romaine, diced apple, honey-roasted pecans, Maytag blue cheese, tossed with Champagne vinaigrette; or the simple and delicious freshly grilled turkey breast sandwich. You'll never go wrong with the lunch specials: for example, customers come from miles away for the grilled cheese deluxe with pear, arugula, Havariti cheese and tomato; and the Cobb salad.
You can dine indoors or out, and while you are there, check out the to-go treats: fresh pastries, cookies and lemon curd and berry tarts, fresh berry cobblers, bread pudding and more.
