ANTIQUE GEMS
If you're an antique fanatic who appreciates a little bit of everything, you've got to check out Mélange. Located in a darling 1920s cottage in Laguna Beach, the store offers everything from Victorian jewelry to Santos (painted and carved images of saints).
The eclectic Mélange bursts with fine antiques (from Oriental to Americana), estate jewelry, paintings and textiles at moderate prices. Owner Kathleen Robertson keeps bohemian Laguna Beach hours (call first) because she travels constantly looking for new items.
Depending on where she's recently traveled, the store could be heavy on Orientals or French pieces. Robertson has a passion for paintings; she also has a lot of sterling flatware, and an entire case of vintage Mexican silver jewelry from the 1930s and 1940s.
