EXOTIC BRUNCH FOR MOM
Treat mom to a taste of Southeast African cuisine on Mother's Day at Mozambique in Laguna Beach.
The restaurant will serve a special three-course brunch Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. And Mother's Day specials will be offered from 3 to 9 p.m. on the a la carte menu. The brunch will cost $29.95 and is half-off for children under 12.
The first course choices include smoked salmon rosette with sliced tomato, shaved onions and capers served with a toasted bagel and dill cream cheese; a spring salad with baby greens, fiddlehead ferns, artichokes, lump crabmeat and vine ripened tomatoes, Champagne truffle vinaigrette; or buffalo ricotta cheese ravioli with porcini mushrooms, wilted spinach and butternut squash coulis; fresh seasonal fruit; or seafood ceviche.
The second course selection includes steak and eggs; Belgium waffle warm maple syrup, strawberries and pecan butter; Southern fried chicken served over mashed potatoes with collard greens, mini waffles and country gravy; Farmer’s sausage and eggs; prime chophouse sirloin with Chanterelle mushrooms, steamed aspargus, and cottage fried potatoes, and a seared salmon brulee with corn leek fondue, curried eggplant and cheesy polenta.
Third course desserts include macadamia banana white chocolate bread pudding, ginger laced crème brulee, white chocolate strawberry parfait, lemon meringue tart, warm potted chocolate cake with coconut gelato.
The restaurant is famous for its exotic Peri-Peri spice dishes, signature grilled prawns and crisped rotisserie chicken. Fans of the spice even go a step further and order the Mozambique Spice Company's Peri Peri Sauce, rubs, spice blends, chutneys and more.
If Mother's Day is out, stop by the Shebeen Lounge for live entertainment Thursdays 6 to 9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays 8:45 to 11:45 p.m.; and Sundays 6 to 9 p.m. Entertainment ranges from blues, rock, alternative, Gospel rhythm and blues, and acoustic guitar.
The Shebeen Lounge and Terrace serves appetizers, burgers and cocktails Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight; Saturdays 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant serves dinner daily from 5 to 10 p.m.
