GREEN WITH WEDDINGS
White weddings are classic, but how smart would a green wedding be? The Spiraled Stem, a sought-after floral designer in Anaheim Hills, recently launched a sustainability program for clients wanting an environmentally conscious wedding.
Owner and designer Christine Saunders is the first (who we know of) in Southern California to join up with www.organicbouquet.com, whose flowers are grown and harvested in a sustainable environment.
"A wedding may last for only one day, but I decorate weddings all year," Christine says. "So the impact my business has on the environment is greater than any one event."
And the Spiraled Stem practices other earth-friendly routines. It carries soy candles, recycled paper and plastic packages for flowers and vases, and recycles flower trimmings.
Rebates are available on containers. You can enjoy the flowers and return the container later, or give it to a local florist.
The Spiraled Stem buys the freshest flowers and only stores them for a short time, that way refrigeration is not necessary, further reducing energy use.
Greer's OC subscribers who book a wedding with the Spiraled Stem will receive a free centerpiece.
