Couture Flowers Design Studio, an upscale floral shop in Newport Beach, designs the crème de la crème in floral arrangements.
"Our style is very Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde," says owner Andrew Gromeck. "We can be very conceptual, cutting edge, or fluffy European."
Gromeck never paints himself into a floral corner, knowing that flower design is in constant change. And he'll give you an instant lesson in what's hot right now.
"The look in flowers is cleaner and clearer, the English garden look is not so hot," Gromeck said. "Monochramatic arrangements, and the presentation is getting much more sophisticated."
A Couture Flower bouquet could be perched in a box, placed in a murano glass paper weight, or a wrapped vase in Chinese brocade. Mixed media elements include copper air conditioning coils, feathers, and artichokes.
"It's the marriage of fashion and flowers," Gromuck says. "We're maximists and minimalists. And we only use premium ingredients."
