NEWLY DISCOVERED FINE WINE
We've discovered the up-and-coming, award-winning Brassfield Estate wines available at OC restaurants and retail stores, and want to spread the word.
The handcrafted wines come from Lake County, a wine region just north of Napa. Several years ago, Jerry Brassfield of Brassfield Estate along with acclaimed winemaker, Kevin Robinson, planted 19 varietals on a beautiful site on the volcanic soils that surround Mount Konocti above Clear Lake.
They grow Italian Pinot Grigio, California Zinfandel, German Gewurztraminer and Johannisberg Riesling and French classics: Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Mourvedre.
Next year, Brassfield Estates opens as a world-class destination for foodies and wine enthusiasts. They'll offer accommodations, a-state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, 70,000-square-feet of caves for barrel usage and private dining. Guests can take advantage of cooking seminars, winery and vineyard tours, and nature walks that cover the 2,000 acres of private nature reserve.
Local restaurants pouring Brassfield Estate Wines including Splashes at the Surf and Sand in Laguna Beach; Rumari, Ferrentelli in Dana Point; the Fish Market in the Irvine Spectrum; and Zov's Bistro in Tustin and the Newport Coast.
Retail stores that carry Brassfield include Gelson's Markets, Vons Pavilions, Beverages and More; and the Wine Pavilion in Lake Forest.

Tomorrow will be your ONLY chance to go inside HomeAid's incredible Project Playhouses from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. The elaborate children-sized playhouses were designed by top California builders and combine the best in homebuilding with childhood imagination. Tickets cost $20; or $75 for a family 4-pack, and the money goes to a great cause: to buld or renovate shelters for Orange County's homeless men, women and children. Free admission for children 3 and under. The playhouses will be on display for eight weeks and sold at auction Oct. 13.
