A TASTY NEWPORT EVENT
Newport's premiere food and entertainment festival, the Taste of Newport, celebrates 19 years at Fashion Island Friday through Sunday.
The super-tasty event has allowed the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce to give more than $165,000 over the years to local organizations through the Taste of Newport Grant Program.
The weekend party attracts more than 60,000 guests who come to sample gourmet foods from more than 30 local restaurants, and to taste wines, cocktails and handcrafted beers. Live bands perform on stage throughout the event.
This year's main acts include multi-platinum artist Huey Lewis and the News performing hits like "I Want a New Drug" on Friday. And Saturday, Devo ("Whip It") makes its only Southern California appearance this year. Sunday, movie star-slash-musician Kevin Costner & Modern West perform original material, as well as some written by Costner's famous musical friends. Sunday will also feature Al Mckay, one of the original founders of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Sample cuisines range from casual to fine dining choices. A partial list includes Agora Churrascaria, Chakra Indian Cuisine, Daily Grill, El Tarasco Mexican Food, Ten Asian Bistro, Five Crowns Restaurant, Ho Sum Bistro, Kitayama, Maggiano's, Marrakesh, McCormick and Schmick's, Palm Terrace Restaurant & Lounge, Island Hotel, Panini Garden Bistro, Pomodoro Cucina Italiana, Port Restaurant and Bar, Red Rock Chili Co., Royal Thai Cuisine, Sabatino's, Sol Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, and Soprano's Restaurant.
Puchase tickets in advance for $22; at the gate Friday and Saturday $25. A special offer exclusively for Sunday admission is just $18.
