We admit that we're big chef groupies at Greer's OC. And once one takes off, we follow. When Chef Florent and Amelia Marneau opened the fabulous Marche Modern at South Coast Plaza, we ran, not walked.
So naturally, we're thrilled to see award-winning executive Chef Yvon Goetz branch off to the new Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar at the District in Tustin. (Goetz worked his magic at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort, Culinary Adventures, and the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel.) And while dining at the Winery, you can actually watch Goetz make his creations in the open air kitchen.
The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar pours the best in wine region offerings and serves contemporary California regional cuisine. (Wine and food pairing is a cinch, the sommelier or server can recommend complementary wines for each dish.) And the list of New and Old World wines will make even the most jaded oenophile smile. The restaurant's state-of-the-art cellar can hold up to 5,000 bottles, making it one of the largest in Orange County.
On the menu choose from starters like Goetz's Alsatian pizza, crème fraiche, applewood smoked bacon, gruyere and onion; or lump crabmeat ravioli, light cured lemon essence, artichoke chips, micro greens; and crispy almond dusted calamari, marinated cucumber salad, spicy tomato and saffron aioli.
Main courses include bone-in-beef short ribs, slow-braised, carrot infused pearl couscous, Zinfandel reduction; or Liberty Farm duck two ways, breast and leg, spicy orange glaze and wilted braising mix, port wine sauce; and prime steaks and fresh fish flown in from Hawaii.
Save room for the roasted Hawaiian pineapple and coconut crepes served with Tahitian vanilla bean and ice cream; or passion fruit crème brulee, chocolate fluer de sel cookies; and apple tarte tatin with caramel ice cream, crème anglaise.
The Winery also features a wine tasting bar with a full bar menu. Two private rooms feature handmade doors from Spain, presentation equipment for corporate meetings and one room even has a waterfall and fireplace.
Open daily for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 2:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and 10:30 p.m Friday and Saturday. The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar, The District (Jamboree Road and Barranca Parkway), 2647 Park Ave. in Tustin, 714.258.7600.
