GREAT WINE DEALS FOR A CAUSE
Taste wines and enjoy a live auction to help raise funds for the devastation caused by Southern California's fires last week.
Bacchus' Secret Cellar in Irvine organized an Emergency Tasting & Auction Thursday (from 5 p.m. to closing) with 100% of the auction proceeds going to the American Red Cross. Wineries and distributors with ties to Orange County pour wines served with light appetizers. Throughout the evening, you can bid on incredible wines.
A sampling of wines up for auction include: 2003 Screaming Eagle; 1997 Bryant Family Cabernet; 1994 Harlan; 1997 Philip Togni Magnum; mixed case of collectable Aussie wines; 2000 Schweiger Spring Mt. Cab Magnum; 3L Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio;
3L bottle from Miner Family Vineyards; and wine from the Coniglio Family Vineyards.
The $20 cost includes wine tasting, appetizers and entry into the auction. Bacchus Secret Cellars motto is "try before you buy" and what better way than with a unique wine bar with an argon gas system that preserves wines perfectly for an extended period. Tastes range from $1 to $19. There's something for everyone: value wines to high-end, Napas or 1st growth Bordeaux.
Other inviting elements include a knowledgeable staff, a relaxing atmosphere, events, a wine club, and gift baskets.

ROCK ON FOR CHOC!
The second annual Rock for CHOC event is Saturday at the Harborside Pavilion Restaurant in Newport Beach. The fun surf-themed event includes music by the legendary Honk, a local band from the 1970s who provided the soundtrack to the famed surf movie, "Five Summer Stories." Enjoy a cocktail reception, silent auction and buffet dinner followed by Honk. All proceeds benefit Children's Hospital of Orange County. Tickets cost $100 per person.
