You can get your fill of old-fashioned freshly baked classics like red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting; a traditional German chocolate cake with coconut pecan-caramel filling; iced molasses snap cookies cake, and much more.
Founder Susan Sarich, a Chicago-native, left her former marketing career in the hotel, nightclub and catering industry to open a neighborhood bakery reminiscent of her childhood and as a tribute to her grandmothers (she uses their delicious recipes).
SusieCakes specializes in straightforward Americana treats, nothing fancy or highly composed.
"Everything should look and taste like it was made at home," Susan says. "We only bake with flour, butter, sugar and eggs--all natural, no mixes."
Susan opened her first SusieCakes bakery two years ago in Brentwood, and soon followed a second location in Calabasas.
The well-received bakery is a great place to stop in for a slice of cake, an exclusive Whoopie Pie (looks like an enormous Oreo), two fudge cookies filled with vanilla buttercream; signature frosting-filled cupcakes; butterscotch toffee pudding, and a collection of cookies and bars.
