It didn't seem right to have a shuttered restaurant for so long on the site of the landmark Arches property at Newport Boulevard and West Coast Highway.
But now, after extensive remodeling, the new A Restaurant has opened on the site of the old Arches, and we think the wait was well worth it.
From the darling "valet girls" to the retro luxe interior, the legendary restaurant property has never looked so good.
It's serving up a 3 p.m. bar menu daily; Saturday and Sunday brunch (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and dinner nightly from 5:30 p.m.
The new team in charge includes husband and wife Tim and Liza Goodell, renown for their culinary expertise and versatility, Hollywood director McG, local real estate developer Chris Brigandi and singer Mark McGrath.
You can stop in for some refined comfort food; a quick bar menu that includes crab cakes, bar burger (your choice: sirloin, turkey or tuna) and abalone club sandwiches; a brunch with choices like lemon ricotta pancakes, classic eggs Benedict, or a breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon and lettuce and tomato.
Executive Chef Vartan Abgaryan serves up a wonderful Caesar salad with fried capers; a butterleaf wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, red onion and maple-glazed bacon; and steak tartare with whole grain mustard, quail egg, and olive tapenade.
The A's entrees include vintage natural prime steaks with your choice of red wine peppercorn, classic Béarnaise or blue cheese butter sauces; and Colorado lamb chop with osso bucco and soft polenta; and a premium blue fin tuna steak with French fries.
Pastry chef Shelly Register offers a variety of delicious sweets, including a just perfect lemon tart, heavenly chocolate cake and a must-try black and white sundae. Register will also oversee A Restaurant's gourmet market next door, which opens in a few months.
The destination market will perfectly compliment the restaurant with delicious prepared foods, fine cheeses, artisan groceries, fresh pastries, LaMill coffee, beer and wine and much more.
