BEARING (EXOTIC) FRUIT!
Attention foodies, chefs and anyone who appreciates hard-to-find exotic produce and specialty foods. We've got a great Orange County discovery.
For the first time, specialty produce wholesaler Frieda's Inc. opens a Frieda's Fresh Marketplace Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., outside its headquarters in Los Alamitos. The open-air produce market will take place every Saturday through July.
Discover a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from all over the world, including California grown and USDA-certified organic items.
Choose from more than 150 (150!) varieties of fresh produce, including tropical and exotic fruits such as starfruit, tamarillos, longan, mangosteen, rambutan, sapote, fresh pre-peeled whole coconuts and more.
Gourmet vegetables include fresh chiles, treviso, endive, eggplant varieties, cipolline onions, and more.
The first 100 shoppers will receive a free reusable cloth shopping bag. And at 9 and 11 a.m., executive chef Gregg Denter will teach shoppers how to prepare and cook specialty produce items available at the market.
And Frieda’s Fresh Marketplace will also offer a fresh seafood stand, artisan breads, fresh pastas, pastries, and fresh-cut flowers.
