A NEW ITALIAN HOT SPOT!
Rave reviews are swirling around OC about the new Cucina Alessa that opened last month in West Newport Beach. And after dining there a couple of times, we agree. The contemporary stylish Italian café is bursting with a lively and homey vibe, homemade Italian food, and reasonable prices. And it's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Owner and Chef Alessandro Pirozzi honed his cooking skills at Antonello's Ristorante and ran six Pomodoro's throughout Orange County before opening his first restaurant. The super friendly Alessandro proudly serves his family recipes from Napoli, Italy. His uncle, Chef Ugo D'Orso (a legend in Italy) taught Alessandro to cook.
Throughout the day, Cucina Alessa makes fresh pastas, sauces, breads, and delicious desserts. Everything is made from scratch, just the way the Pirozzi family cooks in Italy. Breakfast choices include three-egg frittatas, Italian-style French toast, and breakfast paninis with eggs, bacon, provolone and bruschetta tomatoes on rosemary focaccia. At lunch choose from entrée salads, paninis, and fresh pastas served with a cup of minestrone or side della casa salad.
A sampling of dinner entrees includes bistecca al ferri, a rib eye marinated in rosemary and garlic, topped with arugula and served with rosemary and roasted potatoes ($17.95); and Allesandro's grandmother's original recipe lasagna Napoletana, with ricotta, mini-meatballs, ragu, fresh mozzarella and basil ($11.50).
You must try the pizza di Parma with buffalo mozzarella, Parma prosciutto, and arugula ($14.50); and risotto gamberi e asparagi with shrimp and asparagus in a white wine sauce ($14.95). Alessa offers 45 wines by the glass, as well as beer.
