RUN FOR IT!
Greer's OC is not big on gadgets, but this newly unveiled gizmo is too good to pass by. It's destine to be a mainstay in gyms, on running trails and with power walkers in the neighborhood.
Nike and Apple have teamed up to create what they call the "Nike + iPod Sport Kit." It's basically a little device you put in your running shoe that communicates with your iPod Nano to record distance, time, pace and calories expended.
The workout data can be uploaded to track your progress and even compete virtually with other athletes. The iTunes Music Store also provides great songs for downloading during your workout, including lists of the favorite tunes of superstar athletes like Lance Armstrong. It's a very cool feature.
You need three things to make the new technology work: an iPod Nano ($149), a pair of Nike+ shoes ($100 or you can use other brands, but the Nikes have a neat little compartment to tuck the small device into the sole), and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit ($29).
The product is so new and hot right now that some Apple stores and other retailers are having trouble keeping it in stock.
