GETTING HER GOAT
Goat is the talk of fashionistas in Orange County and for good reason. The new modern industrial clothing gallery in Costa Mesa carries a mix of global, local, and emerging designers, as well as must-have established brands.
Its creator and owner, Christina Smith, is a former well-known stylist who has discerning taste for fashion and design. Smith named her store Goat, an acronym for "Greatest Of All Time" as well as an animal that she connects with.
"When you think of a goat, you think of its determination to get to the top of a mountain," Smith said. "That determination explains me in a nutshell."
And as serendipity would have it, Goat is also atop Goat Hill (Costa Mesa’s nickname). It offers a unique, sophisticated and chic retail experience that reflects Smith’s love for culture, symbolism, spirituality, fashion and travel. And at Goat excellent customer service is as important as fashion.
Smith channeled her desire for something out of the ordinary by blending the best in well-known brands like Ernest Sewn, Black Halo, Development, Mon Petit Oisou, Sass & Bide, Jill Stuart and Ruth, as well as die-hard fashionista brands such as Ilana Moses, Ladies of the Canyon, One Teaspoon, Park Vogel, Fleurwood and Geren Ford.
Local and up-and-coming designers represented in Sir, Deer, Flute, Alice Ritter, Thread Social and Freemont.
"I'm so excited to provide a local home for up-and-coming designers to showcase their collections, while also retailing key brands that are essential to any clotheshorse's wardrobe – it's the best of both worlds," Smith said.
