It’s A Miracle!

The Miracle of Mobility Gala is, indeed, a miracle. At the end of the evening – Thursday, July 25 – each guest literally will have changed the life of at least one person – and maybe quite a few more! Guests will have given the miracle of mobility – a free wheelchair – to a person living with a disability somewhere in an under-resourced nation. Each gala ticket purchased not only buys entrance into a fabulous evening at Segerstrom Center for The Arts, but also buys one wheelchair including delivery to one of 93 developing nations. That’s quite a gift and certainly a miracle!

This is the 16th annual Miracle of Mobility. With 500+ guests expected, it is likely that Free Wheelchair Mission, the humanitarian nonprofit host, will raise close to $1.6 million – or more – to manufacture and distribute free wheelchairs around the world. Funds will come from ticket sales, a silent auction with unique experiences, and a live auction where generous guests donate containers of wheelchairs for individuals living with a disability whose lives are changed overnight through the gift of mobility.

New this year is the opportunity for guests to don virtual reality glasses from Oculus to “experience” three wheelchairs being delivered to a poor village in Guatemala. Free Wheelchair Mission has used 360-degree video technology to capture a six-minute actual experience in Guatemala. It’s a don’t-miss virtual experience like no other!

Guests also will enjoy international cuisine stations and special guest speaker Victoria Arlen, whose story itself is a miracle. An ESPN host and reporter, and newly named co-host of American Ninja Warrior Junior, Victoria has been a gold medalist in the Paralympics, a world record holder, and Dancing with the Stars semi-finalist. Amazingly, at age 11, Victoria suffered two rare neurological disorders that left her unresponsive in a hospital before she fought back to life, first in a wheelchair and then walking on her own.
