Master Baker Dean Kim of OC Baking Co. on Greer’s SoCal Show


It’s been five years since I last caught up with Dean Kim, master baker and owner of OC Baking Company, Orange County's premier artisan bakery. Since then he’s nearly doubled the number of top restaurants and hotels that he bakes bread for and he moved into a much larger 22,000 sq. ft. commercial bakery in Orange.

You can watch the latest episode of the Greer’s SoCal Show on YouTube filmed at Kim’s bakery where he oversees around 66 employees. They’re baking 20,000 to 30,000 units a day!

Today his bread is going out to nearly 200 restaurants, hotels, and event centers in OC and LA. On average, Kim says he sleeps about four hours a night, “if I’m lucky” and lives five minutes away from his bakery, which is in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Chances are you’ve enjoyed his bread and not even realized it. A partial list of his clients include Break of Dawn, Broadway, Cortina’s, The Cut, Fashion Island Hotel, 230 Forest, The Hall, Harley, Haven Gastropub, Hotel Irvine, Mix Mix Kitchen Bar, Opah, Patina, Pelican Hill Resort, Provisions Market, The Ranch, Ritz-Carlton, Reunion, Sessions, Stacks, Tackle Box, Vaca, and Watermarc.

You can pick up a loaf of his delicious bread and rolls every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Orange Home Grown Farmer’s Market in Orange, and also at The Butchery in Brea, Costa Mesa, and Newport Beach.
