Dinner at top-rated restaurant for $29!

It’s not every day that a top-rated restaurant in OC offers a two-course dinner for $29, but guess what? Marché Moderne at South Coast Plaza is doing just that through November. Chef-owners Amelia and Florent Marneau are celebrating fall with an Alsace-influenced menu, but if you don’t do pork, you’re out of luck. The dishes showcase “The Pig from Head to Toe,” six pork specialties with pressure-cooked choucroute, German butterball potatoes and a pungent Dijon mustard. Dessert will be Amelia Marneau’s apple tarte a l’Alsaciènne with vanilla-scented crème fraîche custard, and Chimay beer gelato. The menu will be available at dinner only.

Where kids eat free!

I’m in love with the Fast Food Maven, a.k.a. Nancy Luna at the OC Register. She is on top of food news like no other. I couldn’t compete with her, she knows too much. Yesterday she updated the Kids Eat Free list in OC, added four Carl’s Jr., Lucille’s BBQ and Hof’s Hut.

So naturally it got me thinking about kids eating free. And then I went to A Restaurant in Newport Beach for dinner last night, and guess what? Kids Eat Free at A on Sunday nights. There’s just a small catch, you can’t pile a busload of kids in there and expect them to dine gratis. One child eats free with an adult’s entree. Seems fair, and the child’s menu is one of the best, with dessert included.

Shhh! Daily bargains at Nordstrom Rack

I have friends who feel so proprietary about Nordstrom Rack’s bargains on designer apparel that I could possibly lose them as friends for posting this. But, for you, I’ll put the friendship to the test.  Here’s the skinny: you can walk into Nordstrom Rack at Metro Pointe in Costa Mesa on any given day (preferably before noon) and find designer clothing for men and women, shoes, purses and more at a fraction of retail prices. There’s premium denim from William Rast, Hudson, True Religion, AG and one of the hottest jeans today, Dylan George; my favorite, Cosabella panties; even surf apparel for kids. Don’t be surprised if you see top labels such as Christian Dior, Marni, Tory Burch, Miu Miu, Lanvin, Burberry, and much more. New merchandise arrives daily.
